The first thing that defines House LYS is the scale of it’s light. Massive glazing on both sides transform the interior into a living gallery, where the outside world is invited in, but the space remains perfectly composed. The traditional warmth of a barn is replaced with black wood planking in the main ceiling, with gentle curvature in the collar ties to add a subtle, rhythmic softness. The verticality of the space is anchored by the fireplace, a towering presence that draws the eye upwards from the living area and gives the soaring heights and glazing a sense of purpose. The journey to the second floor is defined by a sculptural staircase, where a curved metal sheet wraps the ascent in a single fluid line, leaving the wooden steps to peek over the edge like geometric accents.

When I arrived at Pablo & Ana’s property, the first thing that hit me is a sense of profound conversation between the house and it’s landscape. The house sits on a lush, grassy plateau that gives way to a low rock face at the perimeter where the land meets the sea in a clean, deliberate break. Ancient trees tower over the site, their height mirroring the scale of the house while framing it in a timeless, natural embrace. Tucked into the landscape are quiet pockets of life, wooden decks that overhang the sea, sunchairs for slow afternoons, and clusters of wildflowers where a family of deer might wander through. In every detail, the landscape is just as elegantly curated as its insides.

“Form and function should be one, joined in a spiritual union.” Frank Lloyd Wright
Inside, Pablo and Ana have leaned into a palette of neutral, organic tones mirrored in the natural world, creating a sanctuary of quietude. The curation is anchored by nods to natural geometry, like our Jora lamp hanging over the dining table which brings a touch of the outdoors inside. The walls are adorned with geometric art that avoid harshness, where the lines feel hand drawn and fluid, softened further by the muted palette. The furniture follows this same ethos of softness, allowing the space to feel effortless and light. Each living zone is grounded by statement rugs, that provide a strong, textural contrast to the furniture, leaving the room anchored and intentional.

The decision to flip the layout, placing the office upstairs and the bedroom below, was a bold move that completely shifts the energy of the house; a refreshing reminder that a design’s strength also lies in its ability to be reshaped by the people that call it home. Through their choices, Pablo and Ana have entered into a beautiful conversation with the spirit of House LYS, where the architecture and their own energy meet in perfect alignment.
It was a pleasure to spend time in your space, witness the life you’ve built together and meet the lovely Gala & Gabi. Thank you for welcoming me into your home.
